A Movement of Sadness (2014)


This piece is composed of a planar gearbox suspended overhead that moved the 3 underslung arms via the variable rotation of 3 separate cams. The arms tied together to a hanging pendulum that swung at a rate related to the frequently that the arms dropped. The RPMs of the cams were representative of the average rate of suicide, divorce, and vehicular death in the United States in 2013, and combined sets the pace by which the pendulum underneath responds.
