Dogmas
Through light we perceive the world. Through our beliefs we understand it. Dogmas is an edition of electronically activated candle shaped sculptures. Digitally stored within the piece are a selection of 13 foundational texts that shaped culture and explained the world around us. Through the flickering of the LED taking the place of the flame in the candle, Dogmas reads each of the 6.6 million contained characters via Morse code, a process that it completes over the course of 6 months of continuous operation.
The 13 selected texts are:
The New Testament (via king James version), The Torah, The Quran, Bhagavad Gita, On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, The Dīgha Nikāya (The first book of the The Tripitaka), The Analects by Confucius, Gurū Granth Sāhib, The Socratic Dialogs by Plato, The Code of Hammurabi, The Kojiki , Tao Te Ching, Popol Vuh, and The Epic of Gilgamesh.
